Pumpkin Battle

October 29th, 2005 | Posted in Games

Tagline: An evil pumpkin wrecks havoc in your patch; defeat him!

Directions: Try to defeat the evil pumpkin using your arsenal of melee and magical attacks! It’s possible to lose, but you really should win if you have any common sense.

Pumpkin Battle was a Halloween-themed game I created in 2005. It was sponsored by Crazy Monkey Games for $300. In Pumpkin Battle, your attacks hit harder over time—a small touch that I think makes the game much more fun. I also spent more time than the previous Ultimate Battle animating the attacks. Pumpkin Battle was well received and I still enjoy playing it occasionally!

God’s Playing Field

Tagline: Find out what God really does in his free time!

Directions: To start killing people in the game, click the FIST. Use the MONEY you earn to buy new ATTACKS. Use the NUKE the first time to see the ENDING and unlock FREESTYLE MODE. Casualties will unlock secrets in FREESTYLE MODE.

God’s Playing Field was my first major flash game. I spent hundreds of hours creating it—most of my summer vacation. I was still a Flash novice, so I spent lots of time programming simple tasks. I had no idea how popular it would become! As of July 2008, God’s Playing Field has been played over 14 million times. I got it sponsored by Crazy Monkey Games for $400, and got another $150 after it became so successful.

Ultimate Battle

Tagline: An evil wizard has come to your town; defeat him!

Directions: Play as you would a normal RPG.

This was a spoof game of RPG’s, and the Prequel to Pumpkin Battle. I learned programming and animating techniques, and submitted it to an Armor Games Contest. It didn’t win any awards, but I got $10 for changing the intro and banner from Games of Gondor to Armor Games (they changed their name mid-contest).

Escape

Tagline: Escape the cave by dodging the rocks!

Directions: Dodge the rocks, and get the power-ups to finish levels faster!

I created Escape after learning more Flash and progressing from Jetpack Man. It’s similar to Stick Avalanche by Danny Miller - except it’s much worse :). I enjoyed showing this to everybody at school. For my second game, I think it’s alright.

Jetpack Man

Tagline: Fly around in a never-ending cave!

Directions: Use arrow keys to navigate. That is all.

Jetpack Man was the first flash game I ever created. I was only thirteen at the time. Ironically, a twelve-year-old (whose username was ‘Jonanin’) helped me program it through AIM. To create Jetpack Man, I used a 30-day free trial of Flash MX. The game is incredibly simple, but creating it helped me begin my journey of flash game creation.
